How to Obtain a Marriage License

  • A Massachusetts Pre-Marital Medical Certificate is no longer required prior to issuance of a marriage license.
  • There is a mandatory three-day waiting period, after you file your marriage intentions, before your marriage license can be issued.
  • File your marriage intentions jointly, and in person, at any city or town clerk’s office in Massachusetts. In Provincetown please contact the Town Clerk at townclerk@provincetown-ma.gov or via phone at 508-487-7013
  • A waiver of the three-day waiting period can only be obtained by a judge - the nearest of which is in Orleans. To pursue this option, please contact the Orleans District Court directly at 508-255-4700.
  • The fee for a marriage license in Provincetown is $35.00.
